National Biodiversity Authority in India surpasses 200 Crore mark
India’s National Biodiversity Authority has crossed the 200 crore mark in cumulative disbursement to access and benefit sharing. This achievement marks the importance and significance of bringing communities and stakeholders working on conservation of biodiversity the benefit of exploitation of bio-resources and traditional knowledge and use associated. Biodiversity plays a huge part of the Indian ecosystem, agriculture, medicine and livelihood to local communities of India as it is home to plethora of various species and diverse ecosystems which thus makes its conservation a national priority for India, the Access and Benefit Sharing mechanism looks to serve and promote an equitable system wherein the benefits of bio-resources’ exploitation could be distributed among the involved communities and stakeholders and crossing of 200 crore is a momentous milestone to the mechanism; the body has also foreseen the continuous progress by lending their contribution toward conservation with improved systems of access and utilization of bio-resources at countrywide level
